For those familiar with the 'SAW' horror genre you will know that once the puppet sets the game, it never ends well. It is essentially a puzzle game where someone ends up being dismembered or limbless with every turn. In the Zeelandia version the of the game it's not quite that bad, but certainly steel plate suffers badly. In this game all you have to do is follow the trail of water which has entered from the back of the wheelhouse and find out where it leads...
So, the steering rack/axle which goes back through the bottom steel of the wheelhouse doesn't have any kind of rubber bush or neoprene shroud. This will be addressed with the new wheelhouse but you can see where the water comes in.
The water then seems to drip along the back of the wheelhouse. There was a plywood backing piece in place which was entirely rotten which helpfully funnelled the water towards the main hatchway. It then leaked down through the hatch to...
The area both to the left and right of the steps and sits on the steel.
And this is where it sort of ends. Unfortunately there is some pretty serious rust which has rusted through to the engine room below. It will need replating with 4 or 5mm steel so the welder will be out in force. However, since this will be mostly vertical or flat welding, I have a feeling I should be able to cope with it after all the practice on the bloody portholes.
On a health and safety basis I will have to be careful welding so close to the engine room. I will probably wait until back from dry dock when I can remove the fuel tank and get rid of any diesel from the engine room before making serious attempts at pushing hundreds of amps through a small 3.2mm rod of metal...
